USPA NEWS - On the fifth day of the relay hunger strike in Anantapur, former minister Dr. Saake Sailajanath called for large-scale public mobilization to counter the Centre’s curbs on RDT (Rural Development Trust) and ensure the renewal of its FCRA license.

Call For Public Mobilization To Protect RDT

Speaking at the relay hunger strike organized by the All-Party Committee JAC in front of the Anantapur District Collector’s office, Dr. Saake Sailajanath emphasized that only united, large-scale struggles involving public representatives and citizens could compel the central government to lift restrictions and renew the FCRA clearance for RDT. He highlighted the foundational vision of RDT, launched by Father Vicente Ferrer, which prioritized health and education for the underprivileged.
RDT's Service Praised Amidst Threat Of Fund Block
The former minister reminded that RDT played a pivotal role in uplifting rural populations and added that extending its work to urban regions is a welcome move. He urged the coalition government leaders to intervene at the national level in Delhi to safeguard RDT's future.
Allegations Of Religious Discrimination In FCRA Denial
IFTU District Secretary Suresh alleged that RDT’s FCRA license is being withheld due to religious bias. He condemned the Centre for targeting an organization committed to serving the poor.
Growing Support From Political And Civil Society Groups
JAC Convener Saake Hari noted that support for the hunger strike is growing and asserted that the struggle will continue until the FCRA is renewed. YSRCP leader Vennapusa Ravindra Reddy stressed RDT’s importance in transforming lives in Anantapur and pledged full support to the movement.

Representatives from APTF and other organizations expressed solidarity with the protest. Participants included Discovery Anil, Chamaluru Rajagopal, Arunakka, BKS Anand, Athawale Tanisha, Nagendra, Malli, Dasari Adinarayana, Sugamanchi Srinivasulu, Obulesu, Varikuti Katamayya, Prabhakar, Adam, Ramakrishna, Rocketla Suryanarayana, Ramu, Sake Govardhan, Nagaraju, Raju, Mahesh and others from Dalit, tribal, and minority welfare associations.
